Wix cut 1,000 jobs and its chief executive called AI the biggest shift in how companies are built since the 1970s
Wix told the US Securities and Exchange Commission on 8 June 2026 that it had carried out an "organizational realignment", including "a reduction in the Company's workforce by approximately 20% or 1,000 employees, which was communicated on May 28, 2026". Read the filing on its own and you would never connect it to AI: it gives the reason as streamlining operations and reallocating "resources to support the Company's top strategic priorities", and the words artificial intelligence do not appear in it at all. The AI claim is in the announcement, not the filing. Chief executive Avishai Abrahami made it in a post on X, which Wix then pointed CNBC to when asked for detail. "We have witnessed the most significant shift in how companies are built since the invention of modern programming languages in the 1970s," he wrote. "This is not just about adopting new tools - it is about rewiring how companies are built, how they think, how they manage and how they operate," saying the company would move to fewer layers of leadership so it could decide faster. Two reasons to read this carefully. Abrahami named a second cause in the same breath, and it has nothing to do with AI: the shekel's strength against the dollar, which squeezes a company that pays most of its staff in shekels and earns in dollars. And what he describes is a flatter, smaller organisation rather than specific work now done by software - closer to a company reorganising for an AI era than to an employer saying a machine does that job now. No job figure is attached here for that reason. The 1,000 is Wix's own number for the whole realignment, and Wix has not said how it divides between the two causes it gave.
My business website is on Wix and I pay around $100 a year for it.
at this point should I just ask Claude or Codex to rebuild the whole thing and do a wix layoff?😂
