Apple layoffs: about 200 job cuts across Vision Pro and Siri as it rebuilds Siri around AI
Apple has made about 200 job cuts across its Vision Pro and Siri teams, part of them tied to rebuilding Siri on a new AI platform. 9to5Mac reported on 21 August 2026, following Bloomberg, that about 100 of the layoffs are in the Vision Pro group, where Apple is largely shutting a team focused on gaming and scaling back the team producing Immersive Video, and about 100 are in Siri and software teams. According to the report, Apple's new Siri AI platform runs on a revamped technical architecture that changes the expertise the Siri team needs, so Apple decided to "eliminate a small number of existing roles, reallocate resources and create new positions supporting the updated Siri"; its Intelligent Systems Experience team is also being reorganised around AI features. An Apple spokesperson said the changes were made "to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users" and that "while we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles", adding that affected staff can apply for other roles at Apple. Apple told employees that Vision Pro and visionOS are not going away, though its near-term focus is smart glasses. These job cuts follow a shift in the skills Apple wants for an AI product, not a claim that AI is doing the departing staff's work, so they are recorded as an article and not as a counted AI job loss. This is separate from the AppleCare plan covered on this site's Apple page. The employer-attributed AI job cuts on record are in the AI layoffs tracker on this site.
