IBM CEO Arvind Krishna confirmed the company let go about 200 HR workers as its internal AskHR agent scaled up - the bot now automates 94% of routine HR tasks, from pay statements to leave questions. The twist: IBM says the freed-up spend went into hiring more programmers and salespeople, and it plans to triple US entry-level hiring in 2026. It's the clearest single case study of literal AI replacement - a named system, a named job type, a named headcount - and of the reshuffle argument companies use to defend it.

If IBM can automate 94% of routine HR work, this is going to be a much bigger story in India. We have so many large IT and services companies where a huge number of people are doing process-based work.

As someone from India, the part about increasing entry-level hiring actually caught my attention. Everyone keeps saying AI will reduce fresher jobs, so it’s interesting to see IBM saying the opposite.
