Indeed and Glassdoor cut 1,300 jobs in a memo that says AI is changing the world, without saying AI took the work

United States Human Resources & Recruiting Recruit Holdings
Recruit Holdings, the Japanese owner of Indeed and Glassdoor, cut about 1,300 jobs across the two career sites in July 2025, about 6% of its HR technology workforce. Chief executive Hisayuki "Deko" Idekoba told staff by email that the cuts would fall mainly on US employees in research and development and in the people and sustainability teams, though they "span all functions and several countries." Glassdoor's operations are being folded into Indeed, and Glassdoor's chief executive Christian Sutherland-Wong is leaving. Quartz notes that Idekoba gave no direct reason for the cuts. What he wrote was: "AI is changing the world, and we must adapt by ensuring our product delivers truly great experiences for job seekers and employers." That is a company reorganising itself around an AI product, which is a different claim from AI doing the work of the people who left, and the memo does not make the second one. It was the third round at Indeed in a little over two years, after 1,000 jobs in May 2024 and 15% of staff in March 2023. The two sites are where millions of people go to find work and to find out what an employer is like to work for.
