NYC entry-level tech postings fell 49% since 2022, study finds
The Center for an Urban Future reported that entry-level job postings in computer and mathematical fields in New York City dropped 49% between 2022 and 2025, the largest decline across all occupational sectors. Entry-level office and administrative roles fell 36%, while arts, design, entertainment and media fell 34%. City Comptroller Mark Levine cited the figures as evidence that AI may be eroding early career pathways, noting there are now 1.6 new computer science graduates for every entry-level tech opening in the city. Healthcare and legal sectors bucked the trend with modest increases. The findings matter because they suggest AI's impact on employment may be hitting early-career workers hardest, regardless of claims about overall job stability.
