Lufthansa Group told investors at its Capital Markets Day in Munich on 29 September 2025 that it will eliminate 4,000 full-time-equivalent roles worldwide by 2030. The cuts are aimed at administrative rather than operational jobs, and most are in Germany. The company's release gives the reasoning: "The Lufthansa Group is reviewing which activities will no longer be necessary in the future, for example due to duplication of work. In particular, the profound changes brought about by digitalization and the increased use of artificial intelligence will lead to greater efficiency in many areas and processes." The plan sits alongside a tighter integration of the group's airlines, which include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines, and new financial targets: an adjusted operating margin of 8 to 10 percent from 2028 and more than 2.5 billion euros of adjusted free cash flow a year. Lufthansa missed its profitability targets in 2024 after strikes and aircraft delays. The release names two causes, the duplicated work that integration removes and the efficiency AI brings, and does not split the 4,000 between them. Pilots, cabin crew and ground operations are outside the plan.
