Accenture removed over 11,000 employees in a three-month period, part of an $865 million (about Rs 7,669 crore) restructuring programme the Dublin-based consultancy detailed to analysts in late September 2025. The firm has warned that further cuts may follow. The reductions are tied to a company-wide overhaul described as preparing Accenture "for an era where artificial intelligence, not human consultants, is increasingly steering the ship." Accenture has said staff who cannot be reskilled for AI work will be exited.
Consulting has been one of the first white-collar industries to restructure explicitly around AI, and Accenture is the largest example so far. The message to workers is blunt: retraining is the condition of employment, and those who do not make the transition are being counted as restructuring costs rather than redeployed. For an industry that sells advice on workforce transformation, the firm is now running that process on itself at scale.
